More Than a T-Shirt: The Story Behind Cant Cymru

Casgliad has always been about more than ticking mountains off a list.

It’s about the early starts. The boots by the door. The flask in the car. The summit you nearly turned back from. The days when the cloud finally lifts and you remember exactly why you started.

It’s about collecting memories, one mountain at a time.

And that’s where the idea for our first T-shirt began.

From the wall to the mountains

When we created the Cant Cymru | Welsh One Hundred collection, the idea was simple: to give people a way of following their journey through 100 of Wales’ mountains.

Every pin added to the board represents something.

A walk planned for months.
A spontaneous Sunday adventure.
A first summit.
A difficult day.
A brilliant day.
Maybe even a mountain you never want to climb again!

Slowly, those little pins begin to tell a story that belongs completely to you.

But we wanted to take that story beyond the pinboard.

We wanted to create something that could come on the adventure with you.

Something that celebrated the challenge and the mountains behind it.

And so, the Cant Cymru T-shirt was born.

The story of 100 mountains

There’s something special about setting yourself a challenge that can't be completed in a single weekend.

Cant Cymru takes you across Wales.

There are mountains you’ll already know and others you may never have considered climbing. There are big days in Eryri, quieter summits where you might not see another person, unexpected views, terrible weather and those rare perfect days when everything seems to come together.

But the hundred mountains are only part of the story.

The real story is everything that happens between number one and number one hundred.

The miles travelled. The people you walk with. The places you discover. The mornings when getting out of the car is the hardest part. The feeling when another summit is reached and another pin can finally go into the board.

And everyone’s version of that story will be different.

Some people will work through the hundred quickly.

For others, it might take years.

Some will walk alone. Others with friends, partners, children or dogs.

There’s no right way to do it.

That’s what makes it yours.

Taking Casgliad beyond the pinboard

Until now, Casgliad has largely lived on walls.

Our pinboards and prints were created to celebrate the places you've been and encourage you towards the places still waiting to be explored.

This T-shirt feels like the next chapter.

Instead of something waiting at home for you to add the next pin, this is something that can actually become part of the adventure.

Wear it on the mountain.

Wear it on the drive home with tired legs and muddy boots.

Wear it while planning the next one.

Or wear it simply because the Welsh mountains mean something to you.

For the first Casgliad T-shirt, we wanted to create something rooted in the Cant Cymru challenge and recognisably connected to the landscape that inspired Casgliad in the first place.

Simple. Welsh. And made for people who love being out there.

Why this one means a lot to us

Since starting Casgliad, one of the best parts has been seeing what happens after one of our maps leaves us.

We've watched boards slowly fill with pins in homes across Wales and beyond.

We've received summit photographs and progress updates. We've heard from people who've discovered new parts of Wales simply because an empty space on their board gave them a reason to go somewhere they hadn't been before.

That’s the part of Casgliad that means the most.

Because although we make physical products, what they represent isn't something you can package in a box.

They represent muddy boots and tired legs. Bad weather and unexpected views. Summit sandwiches. Friendships. Determination. Achievement.

Most of all, they represent memories.

Creating something you can actually wear while making those memories felt like a natural next step.

So this T-shirt is a little milestone for Casgliad too.

Our first piece of clothing.

A chance to take Casgliad off the wall and out into the mountains.

And hopefully, just the beginning.
