Hiking Mynydd Rhiw – A Hidden Gem on the Llyn Peninsula

Another Welsh Marilyn ticked off the Casgliad Pinboard! This time, our walk took us up Mynydd Rhiw, a quiet hill with sweeping views across the Llŷn Peninsula.
The walk itself is gentle compared to some of the more rugged Marilyns, but it’s no less rewarding. From the summit, you’re treated to breathtaking panoramas: the Irish Sea glittering to the west, Cardigan Bay stretching away, and the surrounding patchwork of fields rolling down to the coastline. On a clear day, you can even make out Bardsey Island on the horizon.
What makes Mynydd Rhiw special isn’t just the views, but the setting. The small village of Rhiw lies tucked on its slopes, a beautiful cluster of stone cottages with a timeless feel. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine life unfolding slowly, with the sea always in sight.
Climbing Mynydd Rhiw feels like stepping into a more peaceful corner of Wales – not as busy as Eryri (Snowdonia) giants, but full of character and atmosphere. For us, it’s another satisfying pin on the Welsh Marilyns Pinboard, and a reminder that sometimes the smaller hills offer the most memorable moments.
Whether you’re collecting Marilyns or simply looking for a peaceful walk with unforgettable views, Mynydd Rhiw is a hill that deserves a place on your list.
